Great Success!

In the early part of 2010, Chris came to stay at My Sister's Place from a womens work release program. She had a job in a restaurant that was pretty far away and it was at night, so she took a taxi home from her job and it cost her well over $100 per week.  That cost and the cost of the program fees plus the probation fees were just taking a toll on her.  She managed to re-negotiate her probation fees and we helped move her into an efficiency apartment that would be cheaper.  Following that we helped her get a job at a new candle factory that opened up on the westside of Indianapolis.

Transformations

Natashia had a short stint in the local jail.  She was very scared when we first met her.  We gave her time to talk and told her we did not judge her-she gradually opened up and began to trust that we had her "best interests" at heart.  When Natashia got out, she went to cosmetology school and more recently earned her operators license. In May of 2011, Natashia opened up her own styling salon in Indianapolis and she is calling it "Transformations".  She stated, "It is the story about me; how I transformed my life". She stated "I learned a lot and Ms.

One of our first participants

Vicki was one of our first residents in the house.  She had come from a local work release program and had been in trouble in the past with the manufacture of meth amphetamine in a northern Indiana county.  She served her time and got a good job in a warehouse where she remains today.  She stayed with us at our transitional house for close to 5 months.  She was very independent and worked toward the purchase of her own car and was thrilled when she was able to move out into her own house. She continues to do well and has now been on her job for over 3 years.

Moved back on her own early

Diane came to My Sister's Place after being told by her parole officer that she had to move out of her mothers house.  Her mother shared a duplex with a sister who was a heavy alcoholic and addict and at times that sister would be over visiting their mother, intoxicated. Diane  was nervous, she had a job that she was working at for the past 2 years and was afraid she would lose her job if she moved further away from it. She was also concerned because her elderly mother required assistance both physcially and medically.

Now helping others

Elizabeth came to us needing help with employment.  She had a place of her own to live, was on probation and looking for some resources.  We helped her get a job and she has been there for close to 2 years.  We continue to provide on-going case management including help with other resources and will speak to the courts on her behalf anytime she needs us.  She has attended some of our board meetings and has a strong desire to help other woman who are at-risk of becoming homeless.
