There are many ways to help at My Sister's Place. By volunteering your time and energy at our Urban Recycle & Trendy Transitons Thrift Shop, you help us manage the huge volume of clothing we receive and make sure it gets to the right people who need it. The thrift shop also provides jobs for our clients, either through the act of volunteering (giving back) or through learning important retail skills like customer service and how to be a great employee for other jobs. Your experience in these areas helps our women "learn & grow". Essentially you mentor and encourage them "to be all they can be".
By giving to My Sister's Place financially, you help us to directly impact the lives of the women by assisting with the costs of specialty items they may need to achieve success in their daily lives. Items that are not usually donated to them, like bus tickets, hygiene and non-food items, laundry soap, help with deposits for rent and utilities. Some of your financial help goes into funds that help us to become a better source for resources, such as through the purchasing of computers to help with job searches and resume writing and some operational costs such as office supplies that the clients would use to help them achieve independence.
You can also help with our mission of serving women and families by becoming a champion for us; by telling your friends and families about our organization and teaching them why it is important to help those less fortunate then ourselves. It is through this sharing process that many people learn for the first time how they can effect change; how even just a small amount of giving can mean so much to the receiver of your kindness.
Finally, by signing up to follow us on-line either through this website, facebook, or twitter-you can stay up-to date with our growth and development-- you can watch YOUR dollars at work, you can feel good about what you are doing knowing that YOU participated in possibly saving someone else's life. A small act to you, a giant relief for another!
